Three-wheel scooter with double front wheel for rent with a car licence in Bucharest - CooChirie

Always Wanted to Ride, but Only Have a Car Licence?

Morning on the DN1: the line of cars stands still all the way to Băneasa. A three-wheel scooter glides past it. Its rider has no motorcycle licence – just the same category B car licence you have.

Scooters homologated as motor tricycles (category L5e) – over 200cc, with real road performance – can legally be ridden in Romania with a car licence from age 21. No extra lessons at a driving school, no new exam. You get the wind in your face, the lean into corners and the freedom of two wheels, with a double front wheel that gives you stability and confidence.

Think of it this way:

You don't need driving-school lessons, a new exam or an €8,000 scooter to find out whether you love it. Rent one for a day from €50 and feel the difference yourself.

Why a Three-Wheel Scooter? Four Things a Car Can't Give You

🏍️ The joy of riding

Lean into the bends, feel the acceleration and the morning air. A 300–500cc engine gets you off the lights first. It's the motorcycle experience, without waiting years for a new licence.

⚖️ Stability you feel from the first metre

Two front wheels mean double grip when braking and confidence on wet asphalt, tram rails or the cobblestones of the Old Town. Many models have a tilt-lock system: at the lights the scooter stays upright without you putting a foot down.

🗽 Freedom in city traffic

Filter past the queues on Calea Floreasca, Barbu Văcărescu or the DN1 and park close to where you're going. A 45-minute drive often becomes a 20-minute ride.

⛽ Real efficiency

Around 3.5–5 l/100 km, under-seat storage for a helmet or laptop, automatic transmission – no clutch, no gears. Get on, start, go.

A Car Licence and a 200cc+ Scooter – How Is That Legal?

Scooters like the Piaggio MP3, Peugeot Metropolis, Yamaha Tricity 300 or Quadro 350D are homologated as motor tricycles – category L5e. Their front wheels are set far enough apart for this homologation, and many have an integral brake you can operate with a foot pedal, just like a car.

🪪 What the law says

  • Motor tricycles are covered by category B of the driving licence in Romania.
  • For tricycles over 15 kW, the licence holder must be at least 21.
  • No need for an A or A2 motorcycle licence or extra driving-school lessons.

✅ What to bring at pick-up

  • Valid category B driving licence
  • Minimum age 21
  • ID card or passport
  • International Driving Permit if your licence is from outside the EU
  • An approved helmet (your own or rented from us)

Good to know: an approved helmet is mandatory. Rules for riding tricycles on a car licence differ between countries, so check them before leaving Romania.

Double Front Wheel, Three Wheels or Four Wheels – What's the Difference?

All three names describe the same idea: more wheels than a classic scooter, for more grip, while still leaning into corners like a scooter.

🛞 Double front wheel scooter

Two wheels at the front, one at the back – the classic three-wheel scooter layout: Piaggio MP3, Peugeot Metropolis, Yamaha Tricity 300, Quadro 350D. The double front wheel gives you twice the grip exactly where it matters when braking.

🛞🛞 Four-wheel scooter

Two wheels at the front and two at the back, like the Quadro 4 / Qooder. It leans like a scooter but has the stability of a quad. It is also homologated as an L5e tricycle, so you can ride it with a car licence too.

🎓 No extra driving-school lessons

Whatever the model, if it is homologated L5e and you have held a category B licence and are at least 21, you need no extra lessons, no new exam and no motorcycle licence. We give you a short briefing at handover.

Three-Wheel Scooter Models – Which One to Choose?

🛵

Piaggio MP3 300 / 400 / 530 – the pioneer of the category. Tilt-lock system, good wind protection, stable even at main-road speeds. Great for daily commuting and rides on the DN1.

🎩

Peugeot Metropolis 400 (often searched for as "Peugeot MP3", after the Piaggio MP3) – the elegant option with urban GT comfort. Relaxed riding position, generous storage, very quiet. Ideal for a ride for two.

⚡

Yamaha Tricity 300 – agile and easy to handle, with a Standing Assist function that keeps it upright when stopped. Perfect if it's your first time on a scooter.

🛡️

Quadro 350D and Quadro 4 (four-wheel scooter) – hydraulic tilting suspension and excellent grip on uneven roads. For extra stability on the roads around Ilfov.

Frequently Asked Questions about Three-Wheel Scooter Rental

Can I ride a three-wheel scooter with just a car licence?

Yes. In Romania, three-wheel scooters homologated as motor tricycles (category L5e), such as the Piaggio MP3, Peugeot Metropolis, Yamaha Tricity 300 or Quadro 350D, can be ridden with a category B car licence if you are at least 21. You do not need an A or A2 motorcycle licence.

Do I need extra lessons at a driving school?

No. With a category B licence and a minimum age of 21 you can ride an L5e motor tricycle without extra driving-school lessons or a new exam. We give you a short briefing at handover.

What is a double front wheel scooter or a four-wheel scooter?

A double front wheel scooter has two wheels at the front and one at the back (Piaggio MP3, Peugeot Metropolis, Yamaha Tricity, Quadro 350D). A four-wheel scooter, like the Quadro 4 / Qooder, has two wheels at the front and two at the back and still leans into corners like a scooter. When homologated as L5e tricycles, both types can be ridden with a category B licence from age 21.

I am visiting from abroad. Is my licence valid?

Category B licences issued in the EU/EEA are recognised in Romania. If your licence was issued outside the EU, bring an International Driving Permit together with your national licence. The car-licence rule for tricycles applies in Romania; check local rules before riding in another country.

How much does it cost to rent a three-wheel scooter in Bucharest?

Prices start at €50/day. Weekend and weekly rentals have a lower daily rate. The exact price depends on the model, rental period and availability and is shown when you book.

Is a helmet included?

A helmet is mandatory by law. You can bring your own or rent a helmet and a motorcycle airbag vest from us, checked and professionally cleaned.

Where do I pick up the scooter?

Pick-up is in Otopeni, 3 km from Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP). The scooter is meant for Bucharest and Ilfov: city traffic, DN1, Snagov, Pipera, Voluntari, Corbeanca or Tunari.

🛵 Feel the Engine. Keep Your Balance.

The thrill of riding on two wheels, the stability of three, and the freedom to leave city queues behind – all with the licence you already have.

You don't have to buy a scooter to find out how much you'll love it. You just have to book one.
